About this coffee

This washed lot is produced by the Koakaka Cooperative, founded in 2002 and located near the Nyungwe rainforest, a protected area and vital biodiversity hotspot in southern Rwanda. The cooperative counts over 1300 members, including nearly 300 women, and operates three washing stations across three districts.

Cherries are hand-picked, depulped, and then sun-dried on raised beds for about two weeks. Quality is monitored throughout every step — from cherry sorting to final export — ensuring consistency and traceability.

Koakaka is also deeply committed to social and environmental impact: from women-focused coffee premiums and free healthcare, to access to clean water, electricity, and interest-free loans for members.

In the cup, expect a clean and approachable profile, with smooth milk chocolate, brown sugar sweetness, and a light cherry acidity.

A transparent, community-driven coffee — structured, sweet, and full of purpose.
