About this coffee

This natural coffee comes from Las Lajas, a family-run farm at the foot of the Poás volcano. It’s produced by Oscar and Francisca Chacón, known for their pioneering role in natural and honey processing in Costa Rica.

In 2008, after an earthquake severely disrupted water access, they made the bold decision to process their coffees naturally — a first in the country. This approach has since become a benchmark in Latin America’s specialty coffee scene.

Perla Negra is their most advanced natural process: the cherries are dried slowly, fully shaded for over five weeks, allowing a gentle, extended fermentation. The result is a cup that’s rich and expressive, with notes of ripe cherry, candied fruits, and a clean black tea finish.

A precise, layered coffee — the hallmark of a true Costa Rican classic.
